Google Family Link Gets a Design Refresh

Google Family Link, a parental control app that allows parents to monitor and manage their children's activity on Android and Chrome devices, is getting a design refresh. The redesign aims to make it easier for parents to keep track of screen time, adjust settings, and manage permissions.

Streamlined Interface

The app's new design will feature a streamlined interface with a single "Screen time" tab that combines all of the app's screen time management options and tools, including time limits, "Bedtime," and "School time" settings. This new tab will make it easier for parents to keep track of their children's screen time and make adjustments as needed.

The existing "Controls" tab has also been updated to give parents access to account data management, app download approvals, and website blocking in one place. This will make it easier for parents to manage their children's accounts and keep them safe online.

School Time Feature

Google is also rolling out a new "School time" feature that will allow parents to set time limits for their children's devices during school hours. This feature was previously only available on Samsung Galaxy Watch for Kids and Fitbit Ace LTE devices, but it will now be available on Android phones and tablets as well.

Galaxy Watch Support

In addition to the new features and design refresh, Google is also adding support for Galaxy Watch for Kids devices. This will allow parents to use Family Link to approve contacts for their children's Galaxy Watches.

Overall, the Google Family Link redesign is a welcome update that will make it easier for parents to manage their children's online activity. The new streamlined interface and the addition of the "School time" feature will make it easier for parents to keep track of their children's screen time and make sure they are safe online.
